Graduated in Law from the University of Lisbon and holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Porto. He served as an assistant and professor at the Faculty of Economics of the New University of Lisbon (1979/2012) and as a professor at the Faculty of Law of the same university (2003/2007).
Invited Professor at ULHT, he currently teaches at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Education, and Administration, also having taught at the School of Psychology and Life Sciences. He conceptualized the Master’s programs in Forensic Psychology (2006/2015), accredited by A3ES, having directed the first one from 2006 to 2015; he was the director of the organic unit of Psychology (2006/2015) and has been serving as Vice-Rector of Universidade Lusófona since 2013. Author of various works in the field of Criminal Psychology, Justice, and Social Exclusion; he has published dozens of articles and several books in the scientific field to which he is dedicated.
He founded PSIJUS – Association for Juspsychological Intervention, of which he is the president.
He has published various literary works (poetry, short stories, novels) and in 2008, he created the Center for Arts and Psychology at PSIJUS, where a theater group was formed.
In 2006, he was awarded the title of Comendador da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique by thePresident of the Portuguese of Republic.
