Professor Dr. José Ornelas is a full professor at ISPA – University Institute in Lisbon and serves as the director of the Master’s and Ph.D. programs in Community Psychology.
He earned his first Ph.D. in Psychology from Boston University and his second Ph.D. from the University of Porto.
Throughout his career, he has participated in and coordinated various research projects, both nationally and internationally, particularly in the areas of promoting empowerment and community integration for individuals with mental illness and addressing homelessness.
He was a founding member of AEIPS – Association for the Study and Psychosocial Integration, an organization that supports the community integration of individuals with mental illness experience and implemented the first Housing First program in Portugal in 2009.
Recently, he coordinated the European research project HOME_EU: Homelessness as Unfairness, under the Horizon 2020 Community Research and Innovation Program.
