He began working in the Drug Addiction Clinic of the Psychiatry Department at Santa Maria Hospital in 1975, later becoming the head of this clinic.

Nuno Miguel held a leadership position in the Family Planning Association of Lisbon and developed an interest in Sex Education, authoring a book for adolescents published by the Women’s Commission.

In 1986, Nuno Miguel helped found Ares do Pinhal Association, and since then, he has been involved in the work of this association with drug addicts, alcoholics, and the homeless.

Nuno Miguel also helped establish Recomeçar Association for the vocational training of drug addicts.

He served as President of the Installation Commission of Centro das Taipas and the Installation Commission of the Drug Addiction Prevention and Treatment Service, which was responsible for organizing the national network of drug addiction prevention and treatment centers covering all districts.

Nuno Miguel also worked as a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, the Higher Institute of Applied Psychology, the Faculty of Psychology of Lisbon, and the Social Work Program at the Catholic University.
