FOUNDER OF METZINERES

BARCELONA

Aura Roig is a social anthropologist with a master’s degree in Criminology and Sociology of the Penal System from the University of Barcelona. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology, Aura Roig has dedicated the last 20 years to working on drug policy, harm reduction, human rights, and gender perspectives.

This dedication has led her to engage in research as well as the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of drug policies, programs, and services across various countries, including Spain, Canada, Colombia, and Costa Rica. She has also provided consultancy services in the USA and the EECA region. In 2017, Aura established Metzineres, an initiative focused on creating Environments of Shelter for Women Who Use Drugs Surviving Violences, marking the first harm reduction program exclusively for women and gender non-conforming individuals in Spain.

In 2020, Metzineres transitioned into a non-profit cooperative, with Aura Roig serving as the founding director.
