Professor and researcher, creator of the "Housing First" model

Sam Tsemberis, Ph.D., is a clinical-community psychologist who originated the “Housing First” model, an evidence based program with a well-documented research record for effectively ending homelessness for individuals diagnosed with mental illness and addiction.

Housing First programs are successfully implemented across the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Dr. Tsemberis has decades of experience in operations, training, and research and currently serves as CEO of the Pathways Housing First Institute and on the faculty at University of California, Los Angeles, Department of Psychiatry.

He has published papers, chapters, and books about Housing First and received recognition for his work from the American Psychological Associations, the National Alliance to End Homelessness, and awarded the Meritorious Service Cross from the Government of Canada.

Dr. Tsemberis is originally from Greece and lives in the United States.
