INÊS CORDOVIL

Cofounder and architect at SIA arquitectura studio

PORTUGAL

Inês Cordovil (Lisbon, 1973) is an architect.
In 2007, she founded SIA arquitectura with Sofia Pinto Basto and Ana Cravinho.
SIA’s projects encompass various scales and types of intervention, including single-family homes, collective housing buildings, public buildings, commercial spaces, and scenic design.

SIA began its professional practice in rehabilitation, an experience through which it learned to pay close attention to the singularity of each circumstance. In her work, Inês maintains the belief that small interventions can be amplified, transforming reality.

The studio’s projects emerge from close collaboration with a wide range of professionals and areas of expertise. Since its founding, the work produced at the atelier has represented a collective mode of thinking.

From 1998 to 2007, she collaborated with Sousa Oliveira Arquitectura e Urbanismo Lda. as an architect and project coordinator. During this period, she oversaw the design of the Lisbon Central Library and Municipal Archive (unbuilt) and the Lisbon Stone Block housing building.

Between 2007 and 2015, she worked as a project coordinator at Aires Mateus e Associados, where she was responsible for the covering of the Alcântara Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETAR) and the rehabilitation of several residential buildings in Lisbon, including the historic building on Rua Cecílio de Sousa, now the Aires Mateus office.
